It was a conversation Maggie Cumberland wasn’t supposed to hear. A conversation that rips apart her comfortable, suburban life, leads her to betray the one person she has always depended on, and forces her from the security of her once happy home. Fearful of retribution after telling police that her husband Daniel might be involved in human trafficking, Maggie must find the courage and resourcefulness necessary to stay one step ahead of her enemies without the help of either family or friends. But who are her enemies? Maggie has no idea, only the knowledge that if she wants to stay alive she can’t afford to trust anyone. Trust No One is a compelling story of a woman who discovers untapped strengths in the face of a shocking betrayal.

Very good suspense thriller. The reader experiences what a woman, Maggie, is going through when she's confronted with a moral challenge. Two sets of her moral compass are stacked against each other - loyalty to her husband versus the right thing according to her moral compass. Toss in the fact she lives basically like a recluse, (something I could easily identify with), she must overcome her fears to follow her decisions. The author did a wonderful job of explaining the confusion the protagonist faced while on the run, looking over her shoulder, and mustering enough courage to continue her flight despite her emotional pain after trust has been striped, topped by a deep sorrow of saying goodbye. The author takes the character through a long developmental arc, and in the end, she discovers how strong she can be.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes psychological thrillers. If you liked 'Girl On A Train', you may enjoy this story even better. The going over things in the character's mind is fast paced in this story, as Maggie travels across the country. The character's experience on the train was very enlightening. I may book a trip myself when I can. Grab a copy.

Trust No One A Psychological Suspense Novel Mel Parish Books Reviews
Do not miss this book!!! I was so excited after reading Trust No One, that I quickly spread the word to family and friends. I especially loved the shockers during the story...you know...those unexpected situations that you totally did not expect and you lost your breath for a second and whispered "what the..." The characters are limited but well developed...people you have no trouble relating to...those everyday neighbors and friends. Finally, the denouement was totally unexpected and I couldn't have predicted it. Stayed up way past midnight to finish the book!!
Maggie overhears a conversation - her husband's side of a very nasty conversation that implies his participation in human trafficking. Her issue becomes WHAT to do? And it is placed so realistically. Think of your average police station. Imagine going in to say you overheard a phone conversation. Of course, the police wouldn't take action on such small evidence (if it even is evidence). And imagine how terrified you'd be, if you went to a police station and were advised to just go home and not "let on" that you are aware of anything.
So Maggie takes off, planning to escape, disappear. Often, we read about this in books. The threatened woman goes elsewhere, starts a new life with a new name... etc. But how difficult to do in actuality! She had to pay with cash - which raises eyebrows. She had to plan where to go ... and she couldn't tell family her dilemma since she doesn't want to involve them.
We see Maggie so naturally confused about what to do next. When the newspaper stories start to break, Maggie perceives even more danger, so she must keep moving. And at the heart of Maggie's situation is the fact that she was married to Daniel for 22 years (her son is now 19 and away). As a stay-at-home mom, she had worked for a short time as a secretary, but she is really in the middle of a strange and hostile world that doesn't help to show her the way.
This is an excellent read. There are no magic tricks for Maggie as she boards trains, looks for cheap hotels in strange towns, and hoards food for her next meal. Midway through, the news suggests that she is being sought. Then her paranoia (or is it?) kicks in. Are people following her? Is someone being paid to kill her?
I was totally captivated by Maggie's experiences, definitely 5-STARS worth.
Very disappointed
A real surprise ending. Great read. A little slow at times, but all in all a different story that I enjoyed.
This was a real page turner. The author has a keen ability to get inside Maggie's head and anticipate the high level of anxiety she is experiencing.
The author demonstrates how easy it is to jump to conclusions based on minimal information; especially when one is frightened.
This is a great read. I highly recommend it.
This book could have been so much more. The plot was extremely underdeveloped, with all focus directed to the main character's every movement and thought. It was totally predictable and poorly written.
Don't waste your money on this book. I will probably never purchase another book by this author. Sorry, but it was just page after page of what if's! No wondering what might happen next, it was boring-ly obvious. Plus, as a woman myself, I was embarrassed by how inept this female was. Maybe I'm just a cynic, and surely don't claim to be the smartest person in the world, but this woman was just stupid. Plus what she was ' running from ' was all in her dingy head; nobody was ever after her. There was never any sense of urgency, there was never anybody close to hurting her; & the ending was the worst. I would not have finished it, but I have a rule to finish reading any book I start. This one proved to be a sure test of that rule! I would not have given it any stars, but it is required.
